Yesterday at school we got a rather startling message over the school instant messenger system. It announced that the school would be closed today due to a typhoon. Koreans don't normally close school for anything short of nuclear war, and this was the first time I'd heard of such a thing. Of course, teachers were still supposed to report for work. According to a news article, this was to "keep the schools safe".
I guess it's good to know what's really important to our wonderful Board of Education.
Chris actually did have the full day off, so I went over to his house for the night. We practiced swing dancing.
The next day I called in a vacation day, because why not? so I just stayed with Chris throughout the typhoon... which turned out to be a total bust. There was some wind, and some rain, and it seems like the southern provinces got hit fairly hard, but here it wouldn't even have rated a mention if it weren't for school being cancelled.
I'm still just barely teaching, and spending most of my "working" hours doing my own thing - which is mostly studying for my Korean finals on Thursday.
